“ We stopped here for a coffee after a lovely Sunday walk on Hazeley Heath, but it was really nearer lunch time. The courtyard was a very pleasant place to relax, with both indoor and outdoor tables, and we fell to the temptation of the brunch menu to enjoy in the sunshine. The food was excellent, freshly prepared and well presented. Our vegetarian preferences were well catered for and the coffee very good. It’s always good to feel the comfortable ambience generated by other clients who are similarly enjoying their food and drink and attentive, cheerful, polite service from both the owner and their staff, the latter clearly very much involved in the success of this charming cafe. “ There was this girl behind the counter - forgot her name, shame on me - who proper knew what she was about. The espresso was spot on - punchy but not harsh. The milk was steamed bang on, all silky and lush, none of that scalded nonsense you get when they overdo it. And the foam? Mate, it was the business—microfoam, tiny bubbles that just melt into the drink, not some claggy mess sitting there like it’s auditioning for a cloud. She pulled it all together perfectly, no faff, just a bloody good coffee. Finding a proper cappuccino in the UK is like trying to spot a unicorn - most of the time, you’re just left disappointed, either it’s weak as dishwater or topped with foam so lumpy it’s like they’ve chucked a duvet on it. Not this time, though. EDIT: Sunday, 23 Feb. ”
“ December2023 update First proper day out after a bug wiped me out. A day of dark skies, coupled with the kind of rain that just wants you to be wet. So given the choice of a sausage roll in the car or somewhere warm and comfy... Chicken wrap was lovely. Really nice meat, still moist; coleslaw I think had a touch of yogurt and mint so the flavours were just right and balanced with the spice of the wrap. Chips tasted fresh, and again just right. Pleased a table was available! And we need to go back to sample the cakes! Original... Lovely delicious fresh cooked food, fab coffee. Perfect if you are not in a hurry. The lamb kofta was an upmarket and very yummy kebab, and the Asian chicken was a fab combination of textures and flavours. Although the coffee machine wasn't working the cafetiere coffee was smoky and delicious enough that it rolled like velvet over the whole of my tongue. ”
